A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
Hi Jeff.
It's been a while.
Thank you for your help with setting up my Toshiba J-3100 SS001 in 2021.
I forgot my password, but I changed my internet provider and the email address I registered is no longer valid, so I'm posting this using a new account.
Today I'd like to ask about a problem I'm having with my GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26 (SFRC2D.B, AT32F415RBT7, Half Height).
I purchased two of these drives for my KORG Triton Studio, and both are experiencing the same issue.
I have a standard HxC firmware for GOTEK installed.
Triton floppy disks are MS-DOS formatted, so I mounted the MS-DOS disk images provided by Jeff:
\QuickInstall_FloppyDiskImages\SDHxCFE_PC_1.44MB\DSKA0000.HFE
and
\QuickInstall_FloppyDiskImages\SDHxCFE_PC_720KB\DSKA0000.HFE
but Triton did not recognize them.
So I tested them on a PC (Windows XP), but it still wasn't recognized.
After various tests, I found that the attached image (dumped from a formatted actual floppy disk using "Floppy disk dump") was recognized.
Both of these images have 80 tracks, which is different from the 84 tracks of DSKA0000.HFE.
Furthermore, these images cause errors when writing to them.
BTW, both DSKA0000.HFE files are recognized correctly on the SFR1M44-U100K (SFRKC30.AT3, AT32F415CBT).
I think advanced settings in the HxC firmware for the AT32F415RBT7 may be required.
I hope you have a solution.
Thank you.

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply.
Also thanks for the information about image-less mode.
I immediately checked it in image-less mode using mbr_usb_stick_4_1_44M.zip, and as expected, neither Windows(XP and 11) nor Triton recognized it.
The essential problem is that the SFR1M44-U100K recognizes the DSKA0000.HFE file on Windows, but the SFR1M44-DU26 does not.
Something is clearly wrong.
Please let me know if there is any information you need to help me solve the problem.
Thank you.
Additional information:
I installed flashfloppy ver. 3.44 on an SFR1M44-DU26 and tested it, and the 1.44MB DSKA0000.HFE was recognized correctly on Windows 11.
Based on these results, it seems that there is some kind of problem with the HxC program for the SFR1M44-DU26.

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
If you managed to get some images recognized by the Triton with the HxC - as stated in the first post - then this is probably an interface mode setting issue. I know that flash floppy don't follow the internal hfe setting. this may explain the behavior difference.
For example your "working" hfe images use the shugart interface mode. This is not the case when you use the imageless mode. You may want to try the interface mode to shugart with the internal menu.
According to this schematic :
https://github.com/liveboxandy/Gotek-SF ... /Gotek.pdf
DSKCHG ( Pin 6 ) is connected to PB7 . Match with the 34 pins shugart pin 2 (Shugart DSKCHG)
READY ( Pin 8 ) is connected to PB3 . Match with the 34 pins shugart pin 34 (Shugart READY)
Please try this :
https://hxc2001.com/custom_fw/
- Unset/disable "Extra Select button"
- Set/enable "Non gated mode"
- Set "Floppy Interface mode" to "Generic SHUGART"
(The density selection is set with the "JE1" jumper)
Then generate the new firmware.
Once the firmware received, update your gotek and try the 1.44MB imageless mode.

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
Hi Jeff,
sigh..., sorry Jeff.
Please forget about Triton for now.
Just focus on the Windows11 problem.
First of all, I tried the firmware you suggested with Windows 11, and it wasn't recognized in either standard or image-less mode.
And I have already checked the schematic you provided.
Of course, the SFR1M44-U100K works fine on Windows 11 in both normal and image-less mode with the standard firmware.
To repeat, the fundamental problem is that even though I installed the same standard firmware, the SFR1M44-U100K recognizes the DSKA0000.HFE file in Windows, but the SFR1M44-DU26 doesn't.
Furthermore, Flash Floppy works fine on the SFR1M44-DU26.
Isn't it strange that Flash Floppy works fine in normal mode but HxC doesn't?
My first priority is to make sure that the SFR1M44-DU26 is recognized by Windows 11 in normal mode with the standard firmware like the Flash Floppy.
Thank you.
Additional information:
As shown in the attached image, the 0ohm resistors RA, RB and RC have already been removed.

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
If you read the flash floppy support/issues about the SFR1M44-DU26 you will see that the results are very mixed ... I will not compare with this, this may just work in your case "by luck".
What i can tell is that the pins assignment doesn't match the pc standard, but "seems" to match with the shugart mode. SFR1M44-U100K and SFR1M44-DU26 are different regarding the pins assignment. For sure you will have to change interface/pin settings.
I am not sure now : Have you managed to read something with the HxC Firmware and the DU26 drive and on which machine and with which image(s) ?
What is this Windows 11 supporting floppy drives ? Are you using an USB floppy controller ?
How is connected the emulator to the machine ?
Also : Please use use imageless mode or use img files. Your AT32F415 goteks can't reliably support the HFE files ! These AT32F415 goteks don't have enough memory cache to be reliable. (You need a STM32 or a AT32F435 gotek for this)
Please use the attached IMG image for your tests. You can try this :
- Flash the "normal" HxC firmware
- Copy the attached IMG image to the stick, remove any others CFG and HFE files.
- Use the internal menu to change the interface mode :
https://hxc2001.com/docs/gotek-floppy-e ... gotek_menu
"Interface CFG" -> "Custom" ->
"Pin 02" ( connected to DSKCHG ( Pin 6 ) ) -> I bet for "nDiskChange 1", but i would try "Low" / "High" too.
"Pin 34" ( connected to READY ( Pin 8 ) ) -> I bet for ""nReady" but i would try "Ready" too, i am not sure about the signal polarity.
Insert the usb stick and select the img file and try to read it on windows.

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your reply.
Below are the answers to your questions:
> Have you managed to read something with the HxC Firmware and the DU26 drive and on which machine and with which image(s) ?
It was not recognized at all on HxC.
It was only recognized on flash floppy disk on Windows 11, and formatting and reading/writing were also successful.
> What is this Windows 11 supporting floppy drives ? Are you using an USB floppy controller ?
Of course yes!
The USB controller used was a disassembled UF001F that was built into an external FDD drive.
The external FDD drive itself is a MITSUMI D353F3-3213.
I can't test it right now, so I'll give it a little while and report back.

Totally confusing if i consider your first post ... :newwirequire wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 11:18 am > Have you managed to read something with the HxC Firmware and the DU26 drive and on which machine and with which image(s) ?

i am not sure to be able to help if i got wrong / incomplete information(s).
It seems that you managed to make it somewhat working on the Triton but not with the usb adapter.
Do i understand it correctly ?

Hi Jeff,
It worked!
I apologize for sending incorrect information during the verification process.
SFR1M44-DU26 can now read and write normally.
Thank you very much!

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
I'm sorry for confusing you.
I was simply saying that the image Jeff provided doesn't recognize the SFR1M44-DU26 at all.
The floppy image (80 tracks) dumped from the actual floppy disk could be read and written normally on Windows 11 using the SFR1M44-DU26.
However, this image data causes an error when writing in Triton.
It's just like the situation described in
viewtopic.php?t=4016.
I just thought of this, but perhaps if I convert the 80-track floppy image to imageless data, everything will work fine?
If so, could you tell me how to create imageless data?

Are you using the .IMG or the .HFE file ?newwirequire wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 12:27 pm Hi Jeff,
I tested pin2 and pin34.
As you can see in the attached image, there are some combinations that allow reading, but all writing fails.
Can you locate from these results what the cause is?
When you said "Read Ok" : Are you able to display the jpg image present in the .IMG image ?
How is set the density (hd out) jumper on the board ?

Hi Jeff
I just realized that the data I was trying to copy to the floppy disk was corrupted.
Jeff suggested pin2=nDisk Change, pin32=nReady, and it worked fine.
Now I can finally test imageless mode.
Thank you again!

Re: A problem with GOTEK SFR1M44-DU26
Hi Jeff,
I have a question about image-less mode.
MBR style is fine, but when I write a GPT style image to a USB flash drive using rufus, HxC doesn't recognize it and displays the message "No USB Stick found!"
Of course, I selected "GUID Partition Table (GPT) support".
I also checked the partition style of the USB flash drive written to with rufus, and it's GPT.
Am I missing some setting?
Thank you.

I suspect that rufus is applying some modifications before writing the image. If possible retry with this tool :

Hi Jeff,
I tried win32diskimager, but just like rufus, it says "No USB Stick found!"
By the way, unlike when a USB stick is not inserted, it displays "Reading FAT..."
What's the problem that the USB stick is not being recognized?
Could you please tell me in detail the settings to use when writing with win32diskimager?
