Help with Akai S3000XL

Post by supersibbers »

Hello! I'm trying to set up a Gotek floppy emulator in my Akai S3000XL and am having an issue with the unit regognising disk images. I mostly get either a No Disk error, or an error telling me the disk requires formatting. Sometimes, with enough twiddling, I see streams of corrupted-looking filenames and _very occasionally_ I see the names of the samples I'm trying to load, although I'm not able to actually load them.

So far, I've installed the HXC firmware via the USB cable method (the device now shows HXC when I power the unit on). It's a seven-segment unit. I've put my floppy images onto a USB stick along with the config file for index mode, plus the appropriate naming convention. This seems to be working just fine - when the USB stick is inserted I see the numbers corresponding to the images. I've also set the system family via the two-button menu to Akai (0C).

My jumper configuration is as indicated by the green line in this image, which I believe is correct:

Anyone able to let me know what I'm doing wrong? Is there some obvious step I've missed?

Thanks!

Update, got it working! I had to change another one of the profile settings (saw the rec in another thread here) and also I was setting up my images wrong (needed to bounce them to the HFE format with Akai settings using the emulator tool, not just use them straight out of akaiutil).

Now to chop up some amen breaks!

Hey,

I'm just about to upgrade my s950 from an older Gotek to the new OLED and I have the same jumper setting as in the above pic. Can I confirm that you moved it to the green line in the picture?

There doesn't seem to be any documentation I can find that explains what the jumper setting does :/

In terms of the disk images, could you also clarify that you're referring to the HxC Floppy Emulator software available at the bottom of this page: https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_dri ... index.html

I've had difficulties with Akaiutil on Mac OS, and had better luck extracting with PC software.
