2HC is everything OK, 2DD can read but can't write, delete and format!

I'm posting from Japan.

I would be happy if I got some solution.

Now I'm triyng to install HxC on GOTEK into my Toshiba J-3100 SS001 .
This PC is Japanes model in 90'.

I've repaired this PC and made some parts for connecting HxC on GOTEK.
After installed HxC on GOTEK, It worked fine in 2HC format.
But 2DD format was something wrong.

2DD can read, but can't write, delete and format on MS-DOS.
I'm using Toshiba OEM MS-DOS3.3E and 5.0J.

It says that as if it completed to write, delete or format command on display(and more no error!).
Just after those command, I checked by "DIR" command, so it looks like the command was successful.
But not!
Once unmount and remount this image, I knew it had nothing done!

I don't know why it can't write, delete and format in 2DD.
2HC is no problem at all.
I don't know what I made a mistake.

Of course I've already checked PC's FDD contoller is no problem by using original FDD.
And I'm using 2DD image of SDHxCFE_PC_720KB in QuickInstall_FloppyDiskImages.

This PC's FDD controller supports 2HC and 2DD format.
2DD is 720KB(300rpm, 512bite, 9sector x 2head x 80sylinder, as you know this is major format).
2HC is 1200KB(360rpm, 512bite, 15sector x 2head x 80sylinder, It's similer PC98's format but different).

And this PC has 26pins FDD connector.
So I've made exchange cable as following connections.

PC 1,3,5,7pin -> +5V
PC 2 <- INDEX <- GOTEK 8pin
PC 4 -> DSEL1 -> GOTEK 12pin
PC 6 <- DCHG <- GOTEK 34pin(set to nChange1)
PC 8 <- READY <- gnd
PC 9 <- HDEN <- GOTEK 2pin(set to nDen)
PC 10 -> MON -> GOTEK 16pin
PC 11 -> HD IN -> nc
PC 12 -> DIR -> GOTEK 18pin
PC 14 -> STEP -> GOTEK 20pin
PC 16 -> WDATA -> GOTEK 22pin
PC 18 -> WGATE -> GOTEK 24pin
PC 20 <- TRK0 <- GOTEK 26pin
PC 22 <- WPRT <- GOTEK 28pin
PC 24 <- RDATA <- GOTEK 30pin
PC 26 -> SSEL -> GOTEK 32pin
PC 13,15,17,19,21,23,25 -> gnd

Is connection wrong?
BTW I don't have confidence very much about READY pin.

2pin and 34pin's setting are result that I've tried various cases.
Other settings was not worked each pin.

GOTEK is SFR1M44-U100K.
HxC's firmware is latest V3_5_2_5a.

Are there any good ideas?

Have you an OLED / LCD screen on this Gotek ?

Anyway i see several possible causes to this issue :

- Wiring issue with the Write Gate and / or Write Data signal. (Probably not this since this seems to work in 2HC)
- Wiring issue with the density signal.
- An internal bitrate emulator setting forced to a particular value (Try to reset the parameters -> Shutdown the machine, press the Gotek’s right button, switch on the machine and keep the button pressed during ~5 seconds. This will clear the internals settings).

Yes I have installed OLED in my GOTEK.

I've just executed to clear GOTEK
Then I tried to test for 2HC and 2DD again.
But the result was same.
2DD can read but can't write, delete and format.

BTW, you mentioned density signal, if density set not "nDen" but "Den", it can't read both 2HC and 2DD.
So I think dennsity setting might be right on "nDen".

Would you think of any other causes?

Do you see "WA" on the OLED when you try to save something ?

Hi Jeff,

Yes I can see WA on OLED when I'm excecuting copy, delete and format each commands.

Additional information is that I've formatted USB memory(32GB) again, just in case.
But situation did not change.

And I'm trying to use FlashFloppy for comparing HxC's beheivors in the near future.
I'll let you know when I find out.

Can you instead share the HFE files before and after the write attempt ?
Also can you make a video of the oled screen during the write attempt ?

I'm back.

I've tried "Non gated mod", but it couldn't well.

And 2DD's binary data I've checked using binary compare software that was same of before and after.
That was all same result of writing, deleting and formatting operations.
So I think it's not use sending you data.

Then I've checked each signals using logic analyzer.

I'm not familier about FDD, but it seems work WDATA, WGATE and RDATA on 2DD.
What would you think these data?

I have checked your captures, but i think that there is an issue with your capture setup. This is not very usable.

Anyway share the files images and config file, this is more important.

I see that you are using .img image files.
Can you try with HFE images files instead ?
