there are something that i don't understand : the icd board is an SCSI board. I don't see the point with a floppy disk drive/emulator. Can you reexplain me ?950er wrote:Hi Jeff
thanks for the quick response!
The icd software is tu run the icd board on the atari but I guess I can't install it the usual way in my 950?!
The icd advantage plus st is an "interface" made for atari st's... http://www.icd.com/atari/
The 950 has a 19pin Atari DMA port (ib105) which is connected to the icd board to "normally" use hd's and other external hardware like the floppy emulator.

Hi Jeff,
I thought there might be an easy way to get this connection done... But I'm just gonna replace the floppy drive and back up the excisting floppies with my comp.
Thanks anyways!!!

I have a problem that I can not solve. it is an import samples into my akai. I also tried akai prepared image from S900blogspot but writes unformatted. if I try to format the card so nothing happens is still unformatted. What is the correct procedure?
But if I use a file from Jandoe file is uploaded. Sorry for my bad English.
i find this on page 5 i thing that is same files

Downloaded an "known to work" Image from an blog (http://akai-s900.blogspot.com/2008/01/h ... to-pc.html).
Converted it with the HCX Tool, and no Luck at all.
Again: Bad data from Disk.

I Will post picutres when this Baby will be finished...
I have checked the file image : no problem.
So there are 2 possibilities :
->The SDCard too slow : little chance since you using a DD file image (low bitrate)
-> You miss the Akai pull-up patch. Can you check your modification? Can you try a 1K ohms resistor ?
it possible that i have bad rezistors or bad (slow) SD card ?
thanks for your reply!

Try this HFE image :COBOLT wrote:Jeff wrote:Can you give a link to the S900blogspot images ?COBOLT wrote:Hi Jeff,

Try this HFE image :

Hello,
thanks for file. I tried loading program first when started loading sampler write ops! bad data from disk. I tried also loading individual samples but only first sample can be loaded

Re: Akai S950
Your Akai is an S950 ? If yes you should apply the resistor mod.COBOLT wrote: Hello,

Re: Akai S950
Hi there!
I received my floppy emulator REV F yesterday...
and immediately hooked it up.
First it said I need to format the sd card... Did that with a pc. Then it said the cfg-file is missing... bounced it on the sd card. I also bounced a ready to use file on the sd too... When switching on the s950 it now appears "bad file" on the display which disappears when going into the menu!
After that I tried to sample and save to the sd ... Unfortunatelly no luck! Emulator won't interact!
When I try to format it with the s950 it says that write-protection is on but it's not!!! In an earlier post Jeff said to reverse the power connection (REV C) but it won't work for the REV F. If I do that I have no power on the emulator at all.
I guess it has nothing to do with the resistor? As far as I figured from the posts in this forum the resistor only needs to be changed because of longer floppy cables for the external use of the emulator... Am I correct???
INFO:
- I use the original floppy cable (pretty short)
- HXC Software version (7.something)
- Already tried with the reversed floppy connector and "normal"-mode with ID termination on
I only know little about the technical stuff... but until now I tried everything and would be happy for a solution
Thanks in advance, Jay
BTW Thanks to Jeff and Lotharek for creating hi-tech gear for lo-fi equipment

Yes I did... Thanks a lot!
I will add the resistor to the emulator these days and tell you if it's working.
Thanks for the support

Hi there
As an owner of both the Desktop Rev C version and the latest 3.5" type, i can confirm that with the resistor mod applied and the latest firmware and software installed, the HxC appears to be fully compatible with the Akai S950 and as an extensive user of the S950 I am experiencing no problems whatsoever.
Many thanks again to Jeff and Lotharek for their fantastic support; great work guys!

Re: Akai S950
Wow! Really great, finally the HD Floppys for the 950 work!
I can confirm, too. I just had time to install the Resistor Mod (R18 , 2,2 kOhm).
Even with the long cable to the external HxC , it works good.
I´m about to load up all my HD Floppydisks into the internal drive and then save it to prepared virtual HD disks.
Sometimes I get an error while saving, but when I try again, it works. (I guess, it´s still due to the long cable).
Thanks to everybody in this forum solving that problem
If the Floppy Dump funktion on the HxC software works with the 950 disk format, the HxC rev F seems perfect for the S950

Re: Akai S950
How to save PGM+SAMPLES to HxC correctly? Whats the alghorithm. When i press - save pgm and samples but when loading it loads only pgm.

It also works in all of my machines. I updated to the newest firmware, installed the resistor mod (R18, 2,2 kOhm), didnt changed the internal floppy cable, its still original...
AKAI S950, AKAI S900 (which needs no resistor change, but a larger lid)

Re: Akai S950
I'm hijacking the thread...
I've installed the hxc in my s950. Changed the s950's r18 resistor with a 2.2kOhm. Updated the hxc to the 1.7.1.2 firmware. Downloaded the quickinstall floppyimages and inserted a s950 image onto the sd-card (class 10).
The s950 reads and writes the disks, but it won't format. I ain't getting any errors. The format begin and end like it's supposed to, but the content is still there after the format is done, like I never formated.
Anybody got a clue?

Re: Akai S950
This is normal. You need to use the hxc software to create an empty image ( or use/copy an existing one).asr10david wrote:I'm hijacking the thread...
