Sharp MZ 800 Quick disk

Post by ales »

Hi all,
I would like to ask for QD firmware and QD image (with something on it) which combination is confirmed to work with Sharp MZ 800 QD interface.
I cant format QD image at all with "no file space error".
Reading looks working with Ok! or "unformatted" error what is logical if I cant format the image.
Need to test with your working image/firmware if there is another problem in my intergace.
I have SFR1M44-U100LQD model.
Thank you in forward for the help.

Hello,

So reading is working ? Which image are you trying ?
Which firmware are you using ? What is displayed on the screen ?

Hi Jeff,
Im using the last build and tried all the QD images from your package. Also tried custom builds with different parameters for QD version.
Not sure if reading is really OK, because I have no QD with files for Sharp, but reading shows no error.
When formating, display shows R and three times W access. Sharp then shows "No file space error". Reading (DIR) then shows OK! or "unformatted error" alternatively.
Write protect and disk ready signal works OK as Sharp react on them accordingly.
Wiring checked hundred times :-)
Have no buzzer connected on jumpers.

please share the hfe before and after the write attempt.

btw which gotek have you exactly ? An at32f415 based gotek or something else ?

if possible try the HxCFEUSB_V3_4_11_2a_QuickDisk.UPD firmware.

Hi,
Im using the QD image included in the package. Dont know how to generate HFE format for quickdisk.
I have Gotek SFRM44-U100LQD-435 with AT32F435, confirmed by HW info menu.

To be sure there is no HW issue with the Gotek I have tested as FDD emulation on the same Sharp and this works OK.

Were there any confirmed Sharp MZ 800 user of the quickdisk emulation with HxC?

I think that the last time i got a feedbacks about the mz-800 this was before the covid crisis, and for sure the AT32F435 goteks didn't even exist .
So it is very possible that a quirk/bug was introduced with the AT32F435 support...

Anyway please find attached a firmware with the right settings for this machine.
HxCUSBFE.zip
(70.52 KiB) Downloaded 11 times
And also a qd file, converted from a qdf file (SPARROW (1984-12)(Henohenohe-Taro)(JP)[Micom BASIC].qdf)
The converter is very new, but hopefully you should be able to read/run it...
DSKA0000.QD.zip
(4.77 KiB) Downloaded 10 times
Once the reading is working i will add the other MZ qd file format support.

I have just fixed something in the conversion, so this one has more chance to work

Hi,
thank you for sending the files.
I have tried to read your file
DSKA0001.ZIP
YourOriginalJustReadOnce
(5.11 KiB) Downloaded 11 times
and Sharp showed "hard. error"
When I tried to format the file, Sharp showed "filespace error", but when read again it showed "Ok!" and no data on disk (which is logical after format). The file after format is
DSKA0001Format.zip
FormatedAndReadOnce
(496 Bytes) Downloaded 7 times
Im using the FW you have sent me, jumper on MO and left SO jumper on from previous testing.

EDIT: when trying to boot from QD, Gotek freezes - LED still ON and display freezed (font skewed in the moment of scrolling)

mhh this is odd, i will this test the firmware on the QD machine i have here.. (An Thomson MO5 with the QD interface.)

Have you the same issues with the default firmware ? :
https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_dri ... rmware.zip
(the HxCFEUSB_V5_2_3_1a_Roland_QuickDisk_U100LQD.UPD firmware)

Do you know where i can find QD disks images for this machine (or MZ 700 / MZ 1500) ? i am interested by the lowest level file format (QDF, VirtuaQD images, QDC RAW/MFM ...)

Have you an logic analyzer to capture the data from a real quickdisk ?
