Hi Jeff.

I have a few question..

According to nomenclature.txt:
Resistors R2+R9 are 4,7k NOT SMD.. but R2 is 1206 SMD.. also 4,7k?
I could not find R9 on the Top Layer Picture..?

D5 is optional.. Do I have to shorten anything.. or just leave it open as it is..?

L1 is optional. Location must be shorten by wire.. ok?

Is the power coming from the floppy connector (CON2) or from USB?

D1 is just a Power-ON LED.. so should be on, when power is applied..

What is the meaning of D2, D3 and D4?

What are good tests after assembling..?

Many Thanks,
Peter

R2 and R9 are 1206 SMD ! (i need to correct this in the txt file)
Yes i forgot to indicate R9. You can find it on the bottom layer, between C18 and C16.

leave it open.

yes

from the USB.

exactly.
What is the meaning of D2, D3 and D4?
D2-> floppy activity led (on when the target computer access to drive)
D3 -> step_led (on when the head is moving)
D4 ->usb link led
What are good tests after assembling..?
First thing, check that there are not shortcut between VCC and the ground. After this, plug the board by USB to an PC, start the application and go to the Usb stats window (menu Infos). You should have an data throughput of ~32768 bytes/second.
Then load an amiga floppy image: the data throughput should go up to 127kB/s.

If ok, unplug the usb cable, and plug the board to the target computer (amiga...), and replug the usb cable, and start the target computer and Enjoy ;-) .
(Never plug/unplug the floppy cable to the board while the USB cable is present !!!)

Thanks a lot!

I am in the middle of sending out the 18 (2 for myself) pcb's and cpld's kit's.
So if everything goes well, there should be another 20 units seeing the light of life in next weeks ;-)

BTW: I ordered the pcb's in black color.. looks good ;-)

I will keep you updated on this..

Thanks, Peter

Hi Jeff.

CrazyIcecap`s unit is working!
I have also one unit working just fine - Just great!

My second unit however doesn`t work.. the D1 LED is on = power ok, D4 LED (yellow) seems to make 2 small flashes than a little break, than repeats that sequence.. USB Stats shows 0 bytes and message is interface not detected.. -> any clues as to what to check..

Many Thanks, Peter

Check yours solders around the ftdi chip and the sram chip. There are probably a shortcut, or a bad solder. (use a multimeter to test shortcut/bad solder)

After this, the other thing to check is the plcc carrier: it happend that some pins of the cpld isn't in contact with the carrier (carrier pin a little twisted...).

Great ! :D

But are you sure that C3 is well oriented ? It's seems that the polarity of the capacitor is reversed! (maybe i'am wrong).

Hi Jeff. Your great project is a real success after all ;-)
Your first batch counted 20 (green pcb) - all long time gone.
I have run a batch with 20 (black pcb) - all gone.
I now have a final (for me) batch (black pcb) with 15 units - all gone.
CrazyIcecap continues with a batch (red pcb) of app 20? units - some avail.

So all together we have app. 75 units!!

Just great!

Many, many thanks!

You were right, both of us never worked with SMD-capacitors before...:-)

But didn't do any harm....
