I have looked through the list of supported devices here:
https://hxc2001.com/download/floppy_dri ... upport.htm
And while there is support for the 165X with config files and a line for the 1660AS I can't find anything for the 1662E (Maybe it's compatible with the 1660AS?)
HP uses a Teac FD-05HF drive which is a slim FD with a 26 pin ribbon cable but there is some PCB addon to the FDD converting it to a 34 pin connector. There is also a 74LS04 inverter on the PCB.
FDD flat ribbon cable pin 9 connects to inveter input.
Output of inverter connect to 34 pin connector, pin 4. Which is for DD/HD according to the pinouts here:

I'm trying to reflash my HP as it has a bad ROM. I've managed to get the .IMG file from HP as well as 166xE.zip which contains the rom files I need.
From a bit of research it looks like the HP 1662E uses LIF format, though it looks like DOS is supported as well. On the HP LA I can format as LIF or DOS
I've tried loading the IMG file but not having any luck. I've read a few posts that said I need to use HFE format but then how do I convert the IMG file to HFE, or create a HFE image and copy the rom files into it?
Update: I've done some more reading up and use the HxC software to load the IMG file and export to HFE
Have also set the jumpers as per this guide (Which I'm hoping is the same for the 1660ES) For the config file I've tried the normal mode and indexed mode.
HP is not reading the image
