Dumping tool problem
Dumping tool problem
hello,jeff.
i need your help about dumping tool.
i'm using it under windows2000 with FD-55GFR(2DD/2HD 360RPM, BIOS is 5.25inch 1.25Mbytes).
i dumped some 5.25ich 2D disk(PC-88 non protected one) using HxC dumping tool , but cannot work with USB HxC .
so i exported it to HFE file and AFI file, but the images cannot work with SD HxC also.
next, i dumped the disk to D88 image with same machine and same disk drive using D88 image dump tool (as known as ditt), and export the D88 image to HFE file format using HxC Floppy Emulator software.
the hfe image work correctly with SD HxC and work with USB HxC ,too.
so i export the image made by HxC dumping tool to RAW image , and export another RAW image from D88 image .
i compared both images , the images are same.
i use HxC Floppy Emulator software v1.5.2.1.
all image uploaded to here
http://rapidshare.com/files/449714850/HxCdump.zip
*_D88 are making from D88 image(N88BAS.D88)
other files are from HxC dumping tool.
regards.

Re: Dumping tool problem
additinal info.
both RAW image i dumped work correctly using Load RAW image command.
Track type MFM,two side,Number of track 40,sector ID start 1,Sector size 256,Sectors per track 16,RPM300, bitrate 250000.
so i think Sector dump is OK ,but SYNC or GAP0 is bad.
thx

Load the the dumped image hfe file, go into the SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator settings window then uncheck "auto" and select "generic shugart".
After this export and overwrite the hfe file.
Tell me if this is working.
Re: Dumping tool problem
thank you for reply,jeff.
i made new hfe file , but it cannot work as well .
do you need the new file ?
i compare new one and old ,only Floppy interface mode and track offset LUT are changed , and other data is same.
and i check my PC and drive about fdrawcmd.sys.
SAMdisk works properly reading and writing. (http://simonowen.com/samdisk/)
so i think my PC and drive is Ok.
do you have any ideas?

Re: Dumping tool problem
And a very important byte in the file header should have change too...i compare new one and old ,only Floppy interface mode and track offset LUT are changed , and other data is same.
Is it the case ?
Re: Dumping tool problem

i can work with image making HxC dump tool !,but need some technique.
i change the image bitrate from 300kbit/s to 250kbit/s and make hfe file using "MSX2" mode.
the image and setting work ok both SD and USB.
i don't know why "MSX2" is good , but i will check some more disks and tell you it`s ok or not.
i have some other questions .
i use it under windows2000 with FD-55GFR(2DD/2HD 360RPM, PC BIOS is 5.25inch 1.25Mbytes) , dump tool status shows 300kbit/s with dumping 5.25inch 2D and 2DD disk( 500kbit/s with 2HD)
i change the drive FD-55GFR to FD-55B ( this is PC-8801FA disk drive and can use only 2D disk,300RPM and PC BIOS set 5.25inch 360kbytes)
dumping tools status change to 250kbit/s.
i dumped some disk using this two drives and export it to hfe files and compared the two images , only bit rate data is different.
i know the bit rate is determined by using drive. and 5.25inch 2HD drive 360RPM 300kbit/s mode is compatible for using 2D/2DD disks with the drive.
but images made such drives cannot work correctly.
so can you make some interface with changing bitrate?
and another question is about AFI file .
exporting dumped image, i can select file format called AFI.
what is the AFI file ? create by yourself?
In HxC Headquarter web page , AFI is described 'Advanced floppy image: Contains Track data, variable bitrate, flakey bits informations.'
so this file format with this dump tool can emulate some protected disks ? (FM & MFM mix track, flakey bits, top shift , rotation unevenness format and so on)
and can work with SD HxC emulators ?
regards

Re: Dumping tool problem
Regarding the 300 /360 rpm issue i will add some options to hack the imagekitahei88 wrote:jeff

Regarding the AFI, this format contains in fact all data supported by the software : track data, bitrate data, flakeys bits, index scheme...
By this way you can for example convert IPF image to the AFI image and use later the AFI format.
But i designed this format like a "storage/preservation" format. It is heavily packed, and this is not an uC friendly format.
Regarding the variable bitrate and flakeys bits support on the SD emulator, i will make an firmware update for this, but i need make this carefully because i need to change/extend the HFE file format
Re: Dumping tool problem
thanks for your hard work.
i dumped some protected game , but it' cannot work with the protect.
the game disk is not normal format ( 1024byte 5sectors per track ), and the protect is abnormal GAP3 .
so i hope HxC dump tool and SD emulator make better images and can emulate some protect .

Lol .... no i cannot make miracles

If you need protected floppy image dump, take an kryoflux : http://www.kryoflux.com/
the PC FDC will fail to read protection correctly.
Re: Dumping tool problem
yes,jeff.
i have KryoFlux already and use it.
but cannot make IPF by myself and IPF is not opend yet.
DRAFT is also not opend .
so i can dump and write back disk ,but cannot use it without real disk drive.
will you supprot meta deta dumping by KryoFlux?

Yes if possible. but actually i don't have any spec of there format.kitahei88 wrote: will you supprot meta deta dumping by KryoFlux?
