7 segment display off?
7 segment display off?
Is there a way to have the 7 segment display turn off after a disk image selection is made? I have mine installed in a pretty nice Yamaha upright piano and the Gotek display is super bright and kind of distracting.
Re: 7 segment display off?
Be patient : Will be possible in the next release
Re: 7 segment display off?
Oh good! Thanks!!!
Re: 7 segment display off?
Do you know if this option was implemented? Do I just need to update the firmware?
Re: 7 segment display off?
Not yet sorry. I will try to implement this in the next week.Stevenb01 wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:51 pm Do you know if this option was implemented? Do I just need to update the firmware?

Re: 7 segment display off?
How do you turn off the very bright 7-segment Gotek display, preferrably with an auto-delay that turns it off after a certain time of non-use? I can't find any setting for this or see anything in the documentation.
Also, is there a way to dim the display instead of turning it completely off? Thanks!

Re: 7 segment display off?
Has any progress been made on providing auto turn-OFF capability for the 7-segment display and /or controlling its brightness?
The TM1651 LED driver has built-in 8-level brightness functionality according to the datasheet...

Re: 7 segment display off?
I will check but i think that the brightness is already set at its minimum level.tth wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 2:49 pm Has any progress been made on providing auto turn-OFF capability for the 7-segment display and /or controlling its brightness?

Re: 7 segment display off?
Thank you, Jeff!
As a suggestion, auto-OFF would probably be as good as, or better than, auto-dimming, anyway.
Also, please consider that a 7- to 10-second delay (fixed or programmable) before auto-off (after last activity) would be ideal, and that the very first Gotek interaction (e.g. +button/-button/rotary button/+rotary/-rotary event) when display is off should MERELY TURN DISPLAY BACK ON and NOT change previously inserted diskimage. (Of course, disk activity/insertUSB/removeUSB even should turn display back on, too).
Your assistance and amazing HxC are very much appreciated!

Re: 7 segment display off?
i really don't like this display off idea, this can be problematic with some usages. This make you think that the unit is not working/not powered/crashed or something like this. i think i will keep at least a dot on to show that the unit is powered but in standby.synthfuldwarphus wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 1:22 am Thank you, Jeff!

Re: 7 segment display off?
Hi Jeff! So very sorry I didn't see this now (almost exactly a year later)... (And I'm pretty sure I've manually checked this post on at least a couple of occasions during that time.)Jeff wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 10:28 ami really don't like this display off idea, this can be problematic with some usages. Anyway, if you already implemented the auto-off-display feature THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I will update all my wonderful HxC Goteks ASAP!
Regarding your concern over a blank display leading users to think something is wrong, I don't think it's truly an issue, since the very first thing a user would undoubtedly do if they thought there was a problem is to press one of the Gotek buttons or turn/press the rotary encoder, which would instantly activate the Gotek display and alleviate any concern. Maybe a safeguard would be to default HxC settings to "Auto-Off Display = OFF" so a new user wouldn't even encounter this without first having intentionally turned the feature on (thereby already being aware of it, and not presuming there's a malfunction).
Further, I think even when auto-off-display feature is ON, any disk activity/insertUSB/removeUSB should turn also display back on, too. So the display won't ever remain offf with ANY kind of activity, and the user therefore won't be mislead.
Finally, it looks like you already have in Firmware Customization an OLED Screen Setup parameter "Turn off oled screen when entering standby instead of dimming it", so OLED users are already (happily?!) using a very similar feature successfully.
But if you're absolutely convinced this might be a problem for users, your proposal of keeping only a single dot always lit on the display is indeed a clever middle ground!
Thanks again!
