360K IBM 5150 specific question

I spoke with Jeff earlier as I am considering purchase.
I won't have to do anything funny to get 360K disk images to work?
And my hardware only supports a 360K drive SPECIFICALLY.
It isn't an IBM XT or AT, it is the ORIGINAL PC. The 5150.

There's a vintage computer forum I belong to and I'd love to
Help out Jeff and the other PC folks out there.
But this machine won't recognize 720K and up.

It's hard enough just getting an IO card...
(Not like an S-100, but pretty hard)


I'd like to add the PRE-XT IBM original PC to your list of compatible hardware!

To your compatibility list.

I am using the rev. F SD Card unit on a generic 360K controller card
In this computer with no trouble and set to dual floppy mode also.

What a wonderful help this will be.
For any curious PC folks: you can write to the floppy images who's filename shows right on the display and you can switch disks on-the-fly for either drive.

It makes noises like a drive and shows the track number being accessed.
'Tis a mighty cool thing.

It's now safe to move away from fragile, aging floppies, folks!

Yep!
I always found it amusing!

It will always run on any 640K PC in CGA video mode (ugly).
I had a NEC V20 CPU that let it run in EGA and VGA, then it died.
I wanted an actual Intel CPU anyway, then I found the VGA patch on the V.C. website!

If you like ancient GUIs, there was also GEM which predates the Macintosh OS everyone was suing over. It ran on the Apple 2! I hadn't known there was a PC version available!!
This was all before the Apple 3, the Lisa, and the Mac!
Windows 1.0 didn't really have windows! It was more of a file manager.

Trivia tidbit: The V20 CPU apparently was capable of running some 80186 CPU instructions. Huh!

Additional: I have a 'generic' non VLSI chip 8 bit controller card, BUT-
I can mount other images (different disk geometries) in the drive than ONLY 360K !!!
(I noted that 300 RPM was what I needed to use for 360K's)
Other sizes that worked for me were:
720K and the 2.50MB sized image files, so everybody buy this thing !!!
These I have WRITE-TESTED.

Make yourself a virtual boxful of different blanks to use with your programs.
I use the DOS Label command to give them a name that matches the image filename.
