How to edit HXCSDFE.CFG?

I'm new to the atari ST as well as the gotec HxC.

First off: Thank you Jean for sharing this awesome piece of code with us

The problem now:

I got it to flash and it seems to work fine, and I guess it is a config error.
Since I do not have an LCD and buttons attached to the unit, I thought I should be able to edit the HXCSDFE.CFG somehow.
It is said in the manual, that I can do so by using the Floppy Emulator software.
But there is no way to load the HXCSDFE.CFG file?
Am I missing something here?

yes you can load the cfg file, but first a question : What do you want to change into the cfg file ?

well I could not figure out how to load that CFG file.
When I chose to edit some settings it always told me that the usb floppy converter could not be found.

I want to tell the device that it is the second floppy on the bus, since I built the gotek into my external floppy enclosure, because I wanted to keep the Atari untouched. Kind of a nostalgic thing I guess...

The second / first drive setting is just done with the device jumper. This can't be set with the cfg file.
Anyway if you want to edit the cfg file, have a look to the sd hxc settings window.

hmm,
I have tried setting it to:
S0 -> Nothing happens
S1 -> Nothing happens
M0-> Green LED lights up when data is requested, but the OS says there is no disk inserted
S0 and M0 -> Same as M0 only
S1 and M0 -> Same as M0 only

I'm not really sure what is going on there
Now I tried to change the disk image, because I thought that was the culprite.
But when I change to any other image than 000 it is flashing between "Err" and the disk image number.
Like:
"Err" -> 003 -> "Err" -> 003 -> "Err" -> 003 ....

For the moment stay on the image Image 000

have you used the autoboot.hfe + cfg for atari st ?

are you sure about the floppy ribbon used ?

So to begin with, I flashed the gotek with the bootloader via the online serial flasher.
Then I downloaded the HXCFEUSB_HFE_beta_firmware.zip
From there I chose a firmware file that appeared to be a stable release number.
Then I took the HXCSDFE.CFG from the Config_Files/Indexed_mode folder because I wanted to use the indexed mode.
I put those files along with some hfe images onto a FAT32 formatted usb key and tried to run the gotek with the usb key.
I wasn't aware that there are specific cfg files for different computers. At least there are none in the zip files I could find on
hxc2001.com/download/floppy_drive_emulator
Do you know where I can get the Atari ST cfg file?

I have found a Autoboot.hfe in a atari ST folder, but it seems to be made for the file autoboot mode, so I chose the cfg file for the selector mode from config_files/autoboot_mode
I tried to start it, but the same behavior.
I also checked the ribbon that is soldered onto the pcb in the external drive box of my atari while being plugged in to the gotek just to make sure the ribbon connector is making proper contact as well.
All pins have continuety.

Also it is really irritating, that the internal drive always seems to be looking for a disk when I try to open Drive B
If I put a Floppy disk into Drive A and open drive A or drive B I'm always presented with the same content.
Maybe this helps diagnosing my problem?

yes this is maybe the root of the problem. this st was opened before ?

So I opened it up, the warranty was already void *höhö*
So somebody must have been in there before, because some of the metal tabs were already bent.
But to my surprise, the main pcb was in absolute mint condition.
Very little dust, not even crinkly soldermask. Absolutely nothing broken, fixed or aftermarked modded.

Ok. Since you have opened the machine, try to connect the emulator internally . Take care with the floppy ribbon, the 1 wire is on the other way.

it works absolutely flawless
Maybe there is something wrong with the pcb of the external floppy box itself.

I think I will do some checks and maybe find another box and also another floppy cable. Maybe it has intermittent connection problems.

Is this STfm or STe? Is your external enclosure an original Atari external FDD, if so - which model? Does it have some additional electronics inside?
