2.8" QD Disk Emulation
Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
Please :
-> Reformat your usb stick.
-> Unpack the attached zip to the stick root folder/
-> Insert the stick in the drive, press both buttons, switch on the drive, keep both buttons pressed 2 seconds. -> The drive should update.
-> Once done, try to read the DSKA0000.QD and then try to save to DSKA0000.QD and finally retry to read it.
EDIT : Archive removed.

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
So i found some issues in the firmware around the reset signal input. This one didn't worked as it should and since the Roland seems to use it, this probably explain the last traces you shared here and probably the last issues with the Roland machines.
The attached firmware fix the reset line behaviour.

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
I just installed the latest firmware on the Gotek in my Akai X7000.
While I can load, both the Akai and Roland disk images included in the Quick disk folder, and play back the two different samples, I get "bad data" error when if i try to verify the loaded samples.
If I try saving, to any of the different disk images it seems to save, but when I try load the file or verify the saved fil, I get the "bad data".
Is there anything I should consider for the X7000, to make the save function work?
(I have done the wiring as illustrated in the drawing, and I have a jumper on the M0)

Which firmware version are you using exactly ?hoby wrote: Tue Sep 10, 2019 10:07 am I just installed the latest firmware on the Gotek in my Akai X7000.

Can you retry with the attached fw ?
EDIT : HxCFEUSB_V3_4_4_6a_QuickDisk.UPD removed.
Can you share the written QD files ?
(BTW How the Akai can load a Roland QD images ? Is it supposed to be cross compatible ?)
(I have just asked which version was tested very successfully on the s612 by another user to be sure).
(EDIT : Just got the confirmation : The v3.4.4.6a is working fine with the Akai S612)
(EDIT2 : He just tried the very last fw v3.4.6.4a : This appears to work fine too with the S612...)
One possible cause of failure : a too slow usb stick. If possible try another usb stick (another brand/model).
Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
OK - I will try the 3.4.4.6a when I get home tonight, and also another USB stick. I tested last night with an 'old' 4GB stick, and I also tried with a 60 GB. I had the same issues, but I seem to recall that large USB sticks could be a problem - I dont know if this is the case with the Gotek/hxc.
I will try to get hold of another USB stick, and check once more the linked firmware - I think I used last night 3.4.6.4a, but it is probably better I check again with both versions this evening, and share the files here

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
Attached a Working Akai 612 image.
EDIT : Flute 612.QD.zip removed.
Try to read/verify/write it.
I think that the "bad data" at the first verify is maybe normal : This is a Akai 612 data disk. The X7000 maybe transform/change the data at the importation and this is why the loaded data in the RAM and the data on the disk don't match.
If you got at write failure, please share the QD image, i will check it.

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
I installed v3.4.4.6a, and loaded the flute sound. It worked fine, and takes about 7 seconds.
I then tried saving the file again. This takes about 7 seconds as well.
If I then load after save, it takes around 20 seconds before I get the "bad data on disk" message. The same thing happens if I try to run a verify. After 20 seconds, I get the error message.
Here is the original, and saved file

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
The x7000 format appears to be very different to the s612 format... Can you take a good quality picture of the cpu board ? I want to see which controller is used.hoby wrote: Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:43 pm I installed v3.4.4.6a, and loaded the flute sound. It worked fine, and takes about 7 seconds.

Sure, this is the best quality I can upload here, the original is better if you need itJeff wrote: Tue Sep 10, 2019 7:31 pm

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
Ok i have checked your file : The x7000 use the S700 QD format, not the S612 format.
And the good news is that the whole track CRC is valid (=All data valid) so hopefully this should not be too hard to fix it.

Re: 2.8" QD Disk Emulation
Thats great news. Have never had the original quickDisk working on my X7000Jeff wrote: Tue Sep 10, 2019 8:14 pm Ok i have checked your file : The x7000 use the S700 QD format, not the S612 format.
